Breast Cancer Awareness Month Observed at Kokrajhar Cancer Centre

On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Kokrajhar Cancer Centre organised various awareness programmes to extend support to people affected with breast cancer and to create awareness on prevention and early detection. An awareness rally was organised in collaboration with Helena and Guide Basumatary GNM School. Flagged off by Ms Varnali Deka, IAS – DC, Kokrajhar, along with Mr Aditya Bora - ADC Kokrajhar, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singha - Medical Superintendent and Dr Rajesh Kumar – Oncologist from Kokrajhar Cancer Centre – the rally aimed to educate, empower and give hope to every woman. Ms Deka addressed the media regarding the importance of early detection of breast cancer, early treatment and cure. Students from the nursing school, doctors from Kokrajhar Civil Hospital, local NGO workers and staff of Kokrajhar Cancer Centre participated in large numbers in the event. Breast Cancer is curable, if detected early. To facilitate early diagnosis, Assam Cancer Care Foundation hospitals provided free mammography for women above 45 years in the month of October. Mammography facility is available at affordable rates in all seven ACCF hospitals at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Darrang, and Kokrajhar.
